We excavate, grade, and compact the base, set forms to final dimensions, and place reinforcement sized to the load the slab will carry. Permits are pulled first where the city or Coastal Zone requires them.
We pour, screed, and finish the concrete — broom, stamped, exposed aggregate, or colored — and cut control joints at calculated intervals so cracking is managed, not random.
Once cured, we apply a sealer rated for salt-air exposure, walk the finished work with you, and cover the two- to three-year resealing interval so the surface lasts.

In most cases, yes. Foundations, structural slabs, and retaining walls over 4 feet in height require a building permit from the City of Malibu plus stamped engineering. Properties in the Coastal Zone often need a Coastal Development Permit, and hillside lots frequently trigger geotechnical review. Flatwork like a patio or walkway on grade generally does not require a permit. California law requires a CSLB license for any project over $500 in combined labor and materials.
Stamped concrete uses rubber mats pressed into fresh concrete to imprint texture and pattern, mimicking flagstone, slate, brick, or wood. Exposed aggregate removes the top layer of cement paste to reveal the stone underneath for a slip-resistant, low-maintenance finish. Stained concrete applies color to cured concrete — acid stains react chemically with lime for mottled, variegated tones, while water-based dyes deliver more uniform color.
Usually, yes. Hairline and shrinkage cracks under a quarter inch are candidates for epoxy or polyurea injection followed by a resurfacing overlay. Slabs that have settled unevenly can often be lifted with polyurethane foam injection rather than demolished. Replacement makes more sense when there is widespread spalling, rebar corrosion, or cracks wider than a half inch with vertical displacement.
A typical 400 to 600 square foot patio takes 3 to 5 working days on site. Engineered retaining walls run 2 to 4 weeks. A standard slab-on-grade foundation can be poured in about a week, while hillside work involving caissons and grade beams often extends to 4 to 8 weeks. Commercial parking lots and industrial slabs are typically staged in sections across 3 to 8 weeks depending on square footage.
